Lunch at Paul Ainsworth’s Restaurant No6 In Padstow was a delight. Having never been to a Michelin Star Restaurant I was expecting it to be wonderful. It was.
We visited for lunch and a couple of us had the set menu which was a very reasonable £29per person for three courses whilst others chose from the main menu.
Prior to lunch we had pre drinks in the Bar on the first floor. It’s a lovely place to relax pre lunch or afterwards.
Our food journey consisted of the following:
Starters – from the set menu it was smocked haddock and watercress soup, finished with caviar, and from the main menu it was crisp oysters. Both outstanding.
Main Course
From the set menu it was roasted chicken with beans, it tasted delicious. Two of our party chose from the main a la catre menu. Fish of The Day, which was Red mullet with jack crab and leeks, the other Cornish Chap (pork) with smoked eel. All the main dishes were superb.
Dessert
This was the best for me. Two of us had the Cornish Trifle which was create c1596 so the menu said. Just look at the picture below.Coffee
Don’t look how much the coffee costs or you won’t have any. However do have one as you get 5 handmade chocolates with the coffee. They are to die for.
The Kitchen
The kitchen was very small and has recently been refurnished. I wanted to have a look at the kitchen after a friend advised me to. The chef John was very welcoming and explained everything about it. He simply could not have been more welcoming.
The Staff
As you would expect it was exceptional. Nothing was too much trouble and it was very friendly at the same time.
Nut Allergies No Problem!
One of our party had a nut allergy which we advised at the time of booking. It was simply not an issue and they cooked everything fresh with no nuts.
