Walking up Snowdon, in Wales

As the summer nights close in and winter approaches,  we decided to do the hardest climb we have ever done.  This was walking and scrambling up the 3560 feet of Snowdon the second highest point in the United Kingdom.

Here is a brief summary and photo blog of the achievement which is you are of good fitness you should be able to achieve.

We got to bus from opposite Joe Browns shop in Llanberis to Pen Y Pass. The bus cost is only £1.50.

From here to have two choices the Miners Track which goes off on the left of the car park or the Pyg Track which goes off to the right. We took the Pyg Track.

The walk from here is quite easy to start with but soon you have to start climbing / scrambling over large rocks that are part of this challenging walk.

After about an hour of walking you reach a style and a stunning view towards Snowdon and the lakes below. Here the path is slightly easier for a short while.
The path gradually gets tougher with some serious scrambling over rocks which are often step in places. I was glad to be going up rather than down

Eventually you reach the top and keep in mind it will be much colder than you expect. Make sure your hat and gloves are close to hand as you will need them.

On the day we arrived at the summit it was 12c at the Pen Y Pass but with the wind chill was -4c.  The views are super provided the cloud cover stays away.

After a few photos at the top it’s time for the long descent back into Llanberis which is c7-8km. The path is wide and easy to follow and apart from one section near the top is which is slippery underfoot.

Eventually you arrive back in LLanberis and a short walk puts you back in the village centre.

When you arrive back in LLanberis check out Pete’s Eats if you need a bite to eat and drink after your walk. It’s very good.
